The NH-D15 cooler is one of the quietest on the market today, as you can see from the comparison table. It also supports a broad range of CPU sockets, allowing you to connect it to a variety of processors.

Airflow is good while noise is kept to a minimum.

It’s one of the main reasons I chose this particular cooler. It requires some effort in the initial design and refining to be able to provide a decent airflow rate while keeping everything operating as quietly as possible.

It’s not easy to find a balance in this world, and Noctua has definitely paid attention to it.

I haven’t begun overclocking or altering memory profiles or voltages since this is a fresh build. In the BIOS, it’s presently configured to a normal default CPU fan profile.

So the numbers you’re seeing are from a stock system, and they’re fairly close to what you’d get if you used appropriate airflow optimization in the case and a high-quality thermal compound with this CPU.

Assembly

In the past, I’ve used this cooler with both Intel and AMD processors. I’ve always found that Noctua has everything I need to get the job done well the first time.

In overall, putting the heatsink together and attaching it on my motherboard was a breeze. I utilized the motherboard’s original mounting plate, which worked well with the mounting hardware included in the box.

Important: If you’re planning to utilize an AMD CPU, make sure you have the normal mounting backplate with two mounting threads that fits beneath the motherboard. It’s the sole component missing from the basic Noctua NH-D15 cooler kit.

Most motherboards come with it, and all you have to do is remove the plastic mounts on the top of the motherboard before beginning the assembling process.

The mounting screws should be tightened until they stop, according to the assembly instructions. I have to disagree, and I suggest tightening the screws just four turns each. Because the mounting screws pass through the coil spring, you won’t have to worry about them falling loose due to minor vibrations.

This will prevent the motherboard from flexing excessively due to the cooler assembly’s stress. This may prevent you from creating copper track open circuits or other mechanical problems.

The cooling fans are on.

The spring mechanism that snaps into the fan and hooks onto the fin assembly makes it simple to remove or install the fans.

The fan’s position may be readily changed by unclipping the two wire springs and shifting it to the desired location. Reattach the springs to the heatsink to secure the fan in place.

You can install one fan if your cooling needs are simple, and a second fan if your needs are more complicated. It’s great to have this choice, particularly since the package includes a second fan.

A few words about the mission

As you undoubtedly know, it’s critical that the airflow direction of your CPU cooler matches the internal airflow arrangement of your computer. In most cases, it’s preferable to pull air in from the front and exhaust it toward the back of your case.

The cooler’s fans may be connected to the motherboard in two ways. If you just have one fan, this won’t be an issue, but if you have two, you can either attach each one to the motherboard separately or use the supplied Y cable to link the two and operate them as if they were one.

It’s simpler to utilize one connection from the motherboard and link the Y cable to the two fans. This means that your fans will always spin at the same speed. Setting separate fan profile speeds for each individual fan isn’t usually very helpful. When both fans operate as one, you just have to deal with one fan speed profile for each.

This will make the setup procedure a little bit easier and simpler, which is usually the best option.

So, you’re ready to kick-start your gaming rig into overdrive, but your PC is just not cutting it anymore. Perhaps it’s running hot, or maybe you’ve noticed that the fans aren’t spinning fast enough to cool your system, or they are simply louder than they should be.

The cooler the room, the better your computer will run. If your computer is running hot and you are noticing the lag, the fan may be the culprit. During the summer months, many people leave their computers running on low fan settings and have no idea how much of an impact the fan has on the temperature of the room. This guide will cover the basics of setting up and adjusting your fans.

Positive air pressure indicates that more air is being blown into the casing than is being blown out. When compared to the exhaust fan, the intake fan(s) has a greater airflow rate (s).

While some positive internal air pressure within your case is beneficial, it is not ideal if it is excessive.

When a lot of air is pushed into the case with insufficient exhaust circulation, you may end up with a situation where there isn’t enough air movement.

This causes stagnant air, which may get heated due to internal components, increasing the PC’s internal temperature.

This has shown to be the most effective method for keeping everything cool and tidy. Positive air pressure implies that the air will be pulled mainly from your intake fan(s), and the air will be simpler to filter, as previously stated.

If your case doesn’t have one, a basic air filter may be placed in front of your intake fan(s) to guarantee that cleaner, dust-free air is pulled into your case.

Because the airflow is more balanced, enough of air is still expelled, indicating that sufficient air is moving in and out.

There is very little opportunity for stagnant air to warm up and cause the interior temperature to increase beyond acceptable limits as a result of this.

How to set up the fans

Examine the fans that are presently installed in your computer. Keep track of how many intake fans you have against how many exhaust fans you have.

Choose fans with a ball bearing rather than a sleeve bearing since they will last considerably longer.

Another alternative is to purchase a fog blaster from a toy or hobby store. It’s anyone’s guess how well it would work.

Airflow meters are available and may be placed in different places with your system if you want to become more serious about measuring airflow.

Performing an air filter inspection

Check that your case’s filters aren’t too thick to get the optimum airflow. If they are, there’s a good chance that air won’t be able to move freely through them, resulting in poor airflow.

Dust can easily be sucked into your machine if the filter holes are too big or the filter is too thin. This will rapidly dirty fans, heatsinks, and the interior of your PC case.

Cleaning these components correctly takes time, so it’s important to think about how to keep dust out of the system and shorten the time between cleanings.

There are some mesh type filters that are OK, but you will most likely have to clean them more often. This is generally acceptable since they are intended to be removed and reinstalled quickly.

Make sure there aren’t any obstacles in the way of the airflow.

You want to ensure sure nothing gets in the way of the airflow route within the case by looking at where air is taken in and where it leaves.

Cables and other hardware may obstruct flow. As a result, always keep the interior of the case clean and free-flowing.

Unused power supply cables, which are often bundled with cable ties, are a typical example of cables impeding airflow. This is anything that is big enough to block airflow and must be maintained clean.

Manufacturers utilize two primary cooling methods for your graphics card(s) when it comes to air cooling. The first is a blower-style fan that blows on a heatsink with a shroud, while the second is a fan that blows on a heatsink without a shroud.

The blower-style graphics card cooling is my personal favorite. This draws air from the interior of the chassis and blasts it out the PCI slot plate.

I’ve discovered that it significantly reduces the internal computer temperature. However, since your graphics card may run somewhat hotter as a result of this cooling method, I won’t suggest it to overclockers.

If you opt with the more popular shroud type cooler, be sure your case can withstand the additional heat. As a result, making sure your case has adequate airflow is critical.

Inside smaller cases, avoid using a shroud type card.

Blower coolers have the disadvantages of noise and temperature. Shroud type coolers are more popular and effective at cooling the card, however they increase your PC’s internal temperature.

By far the greatest heat is generated by the graphics card in a computer, so think about your choices carefully. The Asus RTX3090 ROG Strix is my recommendation.

A radiator cooler assembly for your CPU is generally something that an enthusiast would want, particularly if the hardware is being overclocked.

In this scenario, I suggest investing in a computer case that can accommodate such components. It would be much easier to clean if you can have filtered air blasted by the radiator fans.

If the cleaning aspect doesn’t bother you and you don’t mind cleaning fine radiator fins on a regular basis, you may relocate the radiator outside of the case and get the greatest cooling for both the CPU and the interior of your case. When it comes to cooling, it will be the best option in every way.

A front-mounted radiator is what I suggest. Because the air outside the case is colder, it will provide greater cooling via the radiator fins right away.

What happens next is even more frustrating, as you will likely find your laptop will eventually just completely shut down, even if it’s plugged in and connected to a power source. This issue has a variety of causes, but most are easily fixed by following a few quick steps.

Laptops are great, but they’re not immune to dying. In fact, there’s a lot more to it than just the screen going dim and the laptop slowly turning off. We’ve all felt the strain of attempting to make a deadline after delaying on work or school tasks; you’re hardly breathing. Then, without abruptly, the laptop screen goes black. If you don’t know your way around a computer, you’ll feel as if the world is collapsing around you since you won’t know where to begin. 

A bad power adapter, faulty power outlets, or damaged batteries are causing your laptop to die when plugged in. This reaction may also be triggered by more serious internal issues, such as faulty motherboards, HDDs, SSDs, or RAM. Make sure your outlet and charger cords are in working order.

This has happened to me before, and others have approached me begging for assistance. After learning about the different reasons and how to address them, I decided to create this post to assist others who are dealing with this common problem.

When I disconnect my laptop, why does it die?

Many factors may cause your laptop to shut off unexpectedly, even if it is still plugged in. If you don’t know why it continues occurring, it may be aggravating. The majority of problems are caused by the power supply (most often the battery, charging connection, or laptop socket), inadequate cooling, and malware. 

The following are some of the most frequent reasons:

Power Adapter That Isn’t Working

The adapter (also known as a laptop charger) is a device that transfers electricity from a wall socket to the computer’s battery. If this method of power transmission is compromised, power delivery will be hampered, and the laptop battery will not charge. 

The laptop will shut off when the battery is totally depleted. Burned/worn-out AC adapters, broken/damaged power cables, damaged DC-in connectors, and other factors may cause AC adapters to fail. 

A defective power adapter, like a non-working power outlet, prevents the laptop from charging. Some laptops display an error notice that says “AC adapter type cannot be determined,” making it simpler to see the issue. Whether you don’t receive this warning, you may check the charging LED light to verify if the laptop is charging. 

Choosing the wrong model, overheated charging blocks, and age are all common causes of faulty power adapters. According to HP, most power adapters can hold 1,000 or more charges.

If your adapter is outdated or overworked, it will not be able to provide a strong enough current to keep your laptop charged. The trickling effect will stop working if you disconnect it, and your laptop will die every time.

Batteries that are worn out or defective

It’s normal for laptop batteries to deteriorate over time, and when they do, the laptop may suffer serious consequences. It may cause the computer to become unable to charge and retain power, overheat, and even shut off unexpectedly. This is a common reaction, particularly if the battery is a few years old. 

The memory effect is a problem that affects laptop batteries, such as Ni-Cad batteries. The battery is constantly damaged as a result of continuously charging it without allowing it to completely drain. The battery memory distorts with time, and it begins to consume power too quickly or shut off abruptly. 

If you leave the laptop unattended for a long period of time, the battery will drain entirely, causing charging issues. When you add additional hardware to your laptop, it’s possible that you’ll have a hardware conflict, particularly if the laptop was working well before the addition. If your machine isn’t properly secured by strong antivirus software, this will happen. Weekly scans will reveal any virus, allowing you to remove it and keep your laptop operating properly.

Examine the charger’s hardware connections.

The first step is to double-check that your AC adapter is properly plugged into the power source and that the switch is turned on. Make that the laptop is properly connected into the laptop charging port as well as the power socket/outlet. Just to be sure, double-check. Keep enough slack in the connection and don’t let the adapter hang from a table, which exerts pressure on the port and may easily damage it, to prevent future damage to the charging port.

Examine your battery’s condition.

Check the battery’s integrity once you’ve ruled out a defective power connection. Some detachable batteries deplete rapidly and must be replaced often.

Follow the procedures below to check the battery:

  1. Remove the battery and drain any remaining power from the laptop (you can do this by holding down the power button for 15 seconds).
  2. Then, without the battery, plug in and switch on the computer. If it turns on, it indicates the computer and adapter are in good operating order, and the battery is the issue.
  3. Replace the battery and try again to be sure. Perhaps you placed the battery incorrectly, causing the power to be delivered incorrectly. If it still doesn’t function, it’s time to get a new battery.

Some computers, such as Macs, don’t have a direct battery compartment, so you’ll need to see an expert. To prevent future issues, remember to properly care for your battery.

Reduce your use of resources.

Overloading your computer, in addition to the hardware, may result in charging issues. A computer that is overworked drains more quickly than normal, which may cause power issues. The laptop will eventually die if the charger isn’t providing enough charge to replace the battery as fast as it is draining. 

This is particularly true if you have multiple applications open at the same time, causing the laptop to get overloaded. Due to the overloading, the laptop will get heated, forcing the fan to work harder. To cool the laptop down, the fan will work harder, using more power. 

Wait till it cools down before powering it up again to fix this issue. Allow time for it to charge once it turns on, and avoid running several power-hungry applications at the same time.

If you see your laptop beginning to heat up, turn it off and wait until it cools down. Keep in mind that if the laptop won’t switch on at first but does after it has cooled down, the issue is most likely with the cooling system.

Check to see whether the vents are clean and clear of debris. If the laptop continues to overheat, the fans are faulty and must be replaced.

Start your computer again.

Many issues may be resolved by restarting a computer. As a result, restarting your laptop is a smart option. Reinstalling the operating system is as simple as entering the CMOS setup while the laptop is restarting. If the laptop turns on successfully, the issue may have been due to an operating system outage. 

However, if it powers on for a few moments before shutting down again, the issue may not be with the operating system. A failing hard drive, motherboard, CPU, or other internal components may be to blame. If you aren’t familiar with computers, get the laptop examined by an expert. 

Solution to a hardware conflict

If you’ve just installed new hardware, such as a CI/PCIe card, the best option is to remove it entirely. If not, you may need to get the issue diagnosed by a specialist. It’s possible that the issue is caused by an automated upgrade to internal hardware.

These problems may also be caused by new browser plug-in extensions. Beta applications and plug-ins are notorious to use excessive amounts of power, causing your laptop to overheat or drain faster than it can recharge.

Examine your laptop’s power choices.

Some software issues/conflicts may also cause your laptop to shut down suddenly. Some laptops, for example, have a system setting that causes the laptop to shut down when the battery level reaches a particular point (typically when it’s nearly completely charged). 

Windows operating systems are notorious for this. If you believe this is the case, take the following steps:

  1. Connect your laptop to a power source until it restarts. 
  2. Go to the power settings page and reset this option once it’s turned back on. This may be done by heading to settings, selecting systems, and then power and sleep. 
  3. Change the plan by pressing power settings and then changing the plan.
